I hadn’t made a formal announcement back when posting petered out because I thought I’d be writing a post soon – then I never did. Every time I thought about trying to work something up the “easy” posts seemed boring and the ones that I wanted to write seemed like too big a pain-in-the-ass to moderate and respond to in comments. So, I didn’t do anything and Inertia and I became reaquainted.
One of the things I didn’t think to do was close comments on the existing posts which I will be doing as soon as I post this. I may come back through and look at approving the comments that have come through before today. Fair warning – I am really, really unlikely to approve any of the comments that seem to be looking to “debate” breastfeeding, formula feeding or are “Pony up your data” in nature (regardless of who is getting told to pony up) because -
A) I’m closing down conversation and it seems wrong to leave a “Show me your cards” comment on the blog without giving the person being told “Put up or shut up!” a chance to respond- even if it’s just to blow a raspberry in the direction of their new buddy.
B) Quite frankly, at this juncture in my life comments along that vein are annoying as all hell to me and are more likely to engender the desire to grab the person writing them by the back of the neck and give them a swirly than a need to begin the job of attempting to educate them. Yes, I’m looking at those of you who has come here looking for the scientific research that shows that formula and formula alone killed directly – YOU I direct to Google. The search terms are “infant killed formula” Wanna make it fun? Throw in the word Melamine. side note – Do you seriously NOT know that there will NEVER be a research study to point to that says “formula kills directly” because it is unethical to create a research study where one of the known possible outcomes is that the product being tested can KILL you?
I’ll leave the comments I’m unwilling to approve (assuming I actually decide to come back in and sort through them) in the moderation queue though and will give them a review if or when I head back this direction with some semblance of regularity and sufficient willingness to attempt to educate the skeptical.
I’m not planning to take down the site and do hope that the configurations of my life as well as my general attitude find the Perfect Storm that allows me to head back in and start up again. My attitude is the larger issue as you can see above. I’m in an incredibly cranky-pants place in my life right now and that means that my first impulse is often to say something scathingly sarcastic and totally unproductive. The 5 second high I’d get from giving it to someone with both barrels of my Sarcast-o-tron isn’t worth it. I learned a long time ago that there is always someone out there with a sharper tongue and a willingness to use it and I don’t particularly want to be that someone for you. Until then -
